A Most Satisfying Read Review by Val
I was intrigued by the disappearance of Molly and Joe and couldn’t wait to find out what happened to them. Will Grayson, the tenacious police officer faced up to the challenge and I was with him at every step. With little to go on and major obstacles to contend with he did not give up even though it might put his own marriage at risk. Along the way he uncovered illicit trading at the railway station and helped save lives in an untimely flood. But it wasn’t all hard work for Will, who found time to go fishing with his retired predecessor and enjoyed the companionship of his new in-laws. I loved the twists and turns as the plot unravelled. The Koneke was the most satisfying read I’ve had in a long while. (Posted on 26/10/2013)
Beautiful Layering Review by Susan Tarr
This story had me intrigued right from the beginning. The scenes and characters are beautifully layered, and this makes the story work well. The many little asides and comments warmed me, keeping me intrigued, wondering where the next page would take me.

The descriptions are uniquely New Zealand; the scenery beautiful, the characters well-rounded. The smells and feel of the area drew me in, making me feel as if I had lived there.

This is a really good read for both male and female audiences, from Young Adult through. It has clearly been well-researched, and is stamped with Singleton's 'voice'.

Debut novel Review by Jennifer Jay
Sue Singleton has crafted a novel that has a unique, captivating plot that provides intrigue for the reader from start to finish. Singleton’s style, with a strong personal voice enables readers to make a connection with the storyline that compels them to wish they could just keep on reading.

The precision of description in the story of The Koneke allows readers to feel as if they have been there before. The imagery is rich and readers can visually imagine scenes described and the characters portrayed.

The novel, set in a small community, includes sadness and tragedy, which could be overwhelming, but it is not as it is mixed with happiness and hope. There is certainly a relevancy for this novel with today’s readers.

Sue Singleton must be congratulated on such a wonderful debut novel and I am looking forward to her next work.
