‘letterboxes: indigenous poetry’ is a nomadic collection of poems, shifting from letterbox to letterbox. Life’s journeys and experiences often border on seemingly uneventful events. However, the complex truth of our interaction with internal and external worlds, its inhabitants, and the surreal, is exposed by the Muse by insight and, often by hindsight. These poems pull aside the veil to reveal the extraordinary hidden within the ordinary. This is a slim volume, packed with over 40 poems that will take you on your own indigenous journey. The sensory experience of this poetry collection is delicately indigenous in every sense of the word. Life is transitory, enjoy the private and not-so private journey that Shona-Ellen shares with you.

Well worth the read -I say more! Give us more! Review by Morepork
Shona-Ellen Barnett's collection certainly portrays familiar scenes, representative of New Zealand life. Words, carefully weighed and refined, the poet's choice of simple, often mundane situations, unveil other concurrent perceptions. Some staggeringly complete images ( like a woman drinking from a chipped cup and a hedgehog crossing the lawn in 'ginger-slippered feet', persuades the reader to read again. The raw, sensual quality of Heart Beat is a perfect example of the combination of two opposing happenings - offering the reader that stab of reality and emotion. (Posted on 4/08/2012)
