Greener Pastures is set in a back-blocks dairy farm in the Bay of Plenty. Bill and Ted work for their father Jack on the family farm. During World War I, Jack served in the Middle East and the land was his reward. But after breaking it in from standing bush, he has had enough. While Ted, encouraged by his English mother, can’t wait to get away and study law, Bill is committed to farming and the land. He wants to improve thing, but is frustrated by his father’s inaction.
This is a story of a family among others in a tight-knit rural community spanning World Wars I and II, and their struggles to improve their lot in a post-war world.
