In this book, the author tells her story about caring for a husband who has dementia. She uses prose and poetry to describe facts and feelings about the care giver’s role and shares strategies she found useful. Her highs, lows, regrets and shortcomings are presented as honestly as possible but throughout the story her love for her husband is evident. The book’s focus is unique. There’s already much information available on how to deal with the symptoms of Alzheimer’s, books of activities to help the patient, text books that focus on the causes and effects of the disease and new medications but there’s little information to help professional and other care givers understand the true feelings of patients’ families.
