Turn your Android device into an ereader

Setup steps (only do this once)

DropboxStep one. You can use your Android smartphone as an ereader. It's a good experimental idea, so you can see how it works before purchasing an actual ereader or tablet. Firstly you connect it to your PC. We recommend using a free internet service called Dropbox. Dropbox is a free cloud service. We've all heard about the cloud. Now you get one of your own for nothing. So download Dropbox from here, and install it on your PC. Follow the Dropbox instructions. You will be asked for your email id and a password.

Android DropboxStep two. Now install the Android Dropbox App onto your Android phone or tablet. Press the Market App, and search for Dropbox. Download and install this free App. When it comes to your email and password, of course you already have one. So log in using the same one you used on your PC. Dropbox gives you 2GB of data free of charge, which is over 3,000 books. You can also store photos, short movies and other things besides books incidentally.

AldikoStep three. While you are on your Android phone or tablet, also search for Aldiko. It's a great ereader platform, and again free. Download and install it.

Usage steps

Step one. Go back to your PC, and click on one of the free samples offered along with all Oceanbooks ebook titles. Make sure it is an epub format. It will download to your PC.

Step two. Copy that book into your dropbox folder in your PC. It will automatically copy up into your free personal cloud.

Step three. On your Android phone, connect into the Dropbox cloud. There is your book. Export or copy it to your Android device. It may just automatically open. Step four. If you want to install the book in your Aldiko library press the house icon at the top left in Aldiko, and search for the book in you SD card. It will most likely be in your Android folder, then go down further into a folder with dropbox in the name, and you'll find the book. Press on it, and import it into Aldiko.

Aldiko libraryHey presto, you're there! Your Alidko library on your Android device will look something like this picture to the right. It is an actual size of an Android smartphone.

After experimenting like this with your smartphone, you are in a better position to think about getting an ereader device such as a tablet etc.
